Electrical Design Engineer

Ehvert Mission Critical, a business unit within Salas O’Brien, a US-based company is seeking an experienced independent contractor (self-employed professional) for a long-term contractual engagement. This role is not limited to a single project and involves ongoing collaboration based on business needs. You will provide services as an independent business entity under a formal independent contractor agreement.

Role Summary

We are seeking to partner with a skilled Electrical Engineer as an independent contract worker to support the design and coordination of cutting-edge data center projects across the U.S. In this role, you will be responsible for modeling, designing power distribution, security, and life systems, standby generators and UPS systems, performing calculations, preparing technical documentation, and ensuring design accuracy using advanced BIM and electrical engineering tools. You will collaborate closely with other disciplines in a dynamic, fast-paced environment, contributing to the full project lifecycle from schematic design through execution. Strong technical knowledge, attention to detail, and excellent communication skills are essential.

Key Responsibilities

  • Developing a thorough understanding and delivery of the project requirements as they relate to scope, cost, and schedule. 
  • Determining and expediting the engineering deliverables for projects. 
  • Developing and maintaining the project scope of work documentation and revisions as required during the design evolution. 
  • Designing of electrical systems, including power distribution systems, UPS systems, standby generator systems, and security and life systems. 
  • Preparing the engineering calculations, schematic designs and detailed designs. 
  • Preparing technical documentation required for the execution of the project including design criteria, design calculations, process flow sheets, and specification and data sheets for electrical equipment. 
  • Reviewing of shop drawings. 
  • Producing models and drawings in various BIM software and CAD modeling tools. 
  • Using BIM tools to virtually construct Electrical systems and coordinate with other disciplines using tools such as Autodesk Revit. 


Qualifications & Experience

  • A bachelor’s or master’s degree in engineering. 
  • Proven expertise as an electrical engineer. 
  • Written and spoken English B1 and higher. 
  • Experience in electrical design for industrial, residential, and commercial sectors in medium voltage and low voltage distribution, lighting, grounding, and lightning protection. 
  • Experience in various electrical modeling software. 
  • Hands-on experience using tools and software such as Revit Autodesk, AutoCAD, ETAP, SKM Power tools, Dialux. 
  • Experience in working on projects in a multidisciplinary environment. 
  • Deep knowledge of electrical manufacturing processes. 
  • Understanding of electrical engineering codes and safety standards. 
  • Microsoft Office proficiency (Word, Excel, Outlook). 
  • Ability to multitask and prioritize accordingly while meeting project deadlines. 
  • Self-starters who are ambitious and thrive in a fast-paced environment. 
  • Ability to communicate technical knowledge in a clear and understandable manner. 
  • Excellent communication skills.

  This engagement is strictly as an independent contractor. You will not be eligible for any employee benefits, and we will not withhold taxes, provide insurance(s), or make contributions to social security/pensions on your behalf. You are responsible for complying with all tax and labor obligations in your country of residence. A formal independent contractor agreement will be required before work begins, governed by Texas, United States law.
