Ehvert Mission Critical, a business unit within Salas O’Brien has an immediate opening for a Mechanical Estimator to join our team.
We are seeking an experienced Mechanical Estimator to play a key role in the preconstruction and planning of complex data center and mission-critical infrastructure projects. This role goes beyond basic estimating - it requires a strategic mindset and deep technical knowledge to assess, model, and price high-performance HVAC systems, chilled water plants, CRAC units, ductwork, piping networks, and other essential mechanical systems that support 24/7 operations in highly sensitive environments.
You’ll work on projects where uptime and efficiency are non-negotiable, meaning every system must be meticulously planned, costed, and aligned with client-specific reliability standards such as N+1, 2N redundancy, and Tier III/IV design requirements. The Mechanical Estimator will collaborate closely with design engineers, project managers, and procurement to shape early-stage planning, optimize lifecycle cost performance, and contribute to value engineering initiatives that improve system efficiency without compromising resilience or compliance.
This position is ideal for someone who thrives on technical complexity and has proven experience estimating the mechanical scope for large-scale data centers, high-density server environments, and similar mission-critical facilities.

What You Will Do:
- Analyze project drawings, specifications, and scope to develop mechanical cost estimates.
- Perform detailed quantity take-offs for HVAC systems, ductwork, piping, and other mechanical elements.
- Collaborate with engineering, procurement, and construction teams to gather accurate data and validate pricing.
- Develop budgets and proposals for new projects.
- Support value engineering and cost-saving strategies.
- Ensure compliance with project requirements and applicable codes and standards.
What We Expect:
- 10+ years of experience in mechanical estimating, ideally in data center or mission-critical projects.
- Strong understanding of HVAC systems, mechanical codes, and construction processes.
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
- Proficiency in Quantity Takeoff software, Procore, Bluebeam, Revit, MS Excel, and potentially Trimble, PlanSwift, or CostOS.
- Data Center Experience is preferred but not required. Other mission-critical experience (e.g., hospitals, pharmaceutical, semiconductor, etc.) is also considered.
- Certifications: PMP, PE, or other relevant certifications are a plus.
- Strong leadership and communication skills.
- Problem-solving mindset with the ability to work under tight deadlines.
- Ability to manage multiple stakeholders, including contractors, vendors, and engineers.
- Must be authorized to work in the United States.
